This kit includes the entire installation kit which is required for installation. Auto Group offers a turn key tilt steering column for any 1967 through 1969 Mustang. THIS TILT COLUMN IS STRICTLY FOR USE WITH AN AFTER MARKET STYLE STEERING WHEEL. IT WILL NOT WORK WITH AN ORIGINAL MUSTANG STYLE STEERING WHEEL.

The columns, pictured, are a painted column and a mill stainless steel or matte finish. The matte finish is the paintable finish. It is shown in red simply as an example of what it can look like painted. You can paint the column the color of your choice. All tilt columns that we offer are stainless steel and come complete with the correct installation kit required for installation.

We also offer polished stainless steel tilt column kits. Please be aware that you might see tilt columns offered at lower prices but typically they do not include the installation kit.

You must have the correct installation kit to install any after market tilt steering column. It is no fun to receive a tilt column only to find that you can not install it. And know how they fit and work. We will be here to answer any questions you might have. Why install a tilt column?

The primary reason given by most of our customers is EASE OF ENTRY AND EXIT from their Classic Mustang. Classic Mustangs were produced with 15 inch steering wheels. If you are a tall person or a bit overweight (like me) you probably find it a little difficult getting into and out of your Pony. If you are of short stature that big wheel might be a bit high. In all of these cases a tilt column can be an effective remedy making your Pony even more enjoyable to drive.

1965, 1966, and early 1967 Mustangs had a solid steering shaft that connected directly to the steering gear box. This is like having a solid steel spear pointed at your chest while driving. In a front end collision there was nothing to prevent this shaft from coming into contact with the driver.

An after market tilt column has a collapsible joint in the column for added safety. A tilt column is not something that stands out when you look inside the car. The only way to distinguish it from an original column is by the small lever below the turn signal lever and, if you really look closely, an emergency flasher button.

These columns have 5 distinct tilt positions to place the steering wheel where you need it to be. The column is pre-wired for turn signals.

No additional wiring is necessary. I should point out that if you have a 1965 or 1966 Mustang with a rally pac you can not install a tilt column and maintain the rally pac.

The tilt joint interferes with the rally pac. When using an original Ford steering wheel a minor modification might be necessary. Can walk you through that minor modification. You do not have to modify your Mustang or cut on it in any way to install a tilt column. You can use your existing steering gear box or replace it with a new quick ration steering gear box also available from K. You can save your old steering column to re-install should you sell the Mustang or of course, you can provide the original column with the Mustang should you sell it. Thus far I do not believe any of the Mustang owners whose installation we performed at K. Chose to keep their old columns once they saw the new tilt column installed and drove their cars with the tilt column. WE ARE HERE TO HELP AFTER THE SALE.
